Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Colima circa 100 BC – 250 AD. Playable red pottery flute with figural climbing monkey at the lip-plate. The monkey is molded in relief, pierced eyes and a long tail. Monkey’s were symbols of good fortune and joy, as well as pleasure and immorality — the latter of which was punishable by death. Size 13 1/2" H on included custom stand

Condition: Piece has been broke and repaired in two places, else in good condition.
