Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Azande Tribe Circa 1850-80. Baptist Missionary period short sword with a wide double edged blade with hand hammered design down central rib with a tapered in ricasso area, wood hilt and handle is wrapped in twine and numerous bands of twisted steel wire, tang protrudes and is folded over to maintain grip.
During the mid to late 19th century Baptist Missionary and their society would send weapons and souvenirs back to raise funds for their expansion in the DRC. Size over-all 23 1/2" L, blade 18 1/2" L
Condition: As-is condition with loss and wear expected with age.
