Pre-Columbian, South America, North West Coast, probably Inca Peru 700 CE-1100 CE. Intact framed cocoa leaf bag of fine woven fabric and vertical bands of classic scrolling in white, reds, and black dyed pigments. The remainder with fine tassels original to the bag and with light fraying to the top left section. Frame 17" H x 11" W, bag 10" H x 10 1/2" W

Inca valued coca leaves as highly as gold. They used small bags of coca leaves to relieve symptoms of altitude sickness, headaches, sore throats, and upset stomachs.
