Engraved war shield of the Kalam Clan with raised geometric bands in a zig zag pattern on the shield. Carved from a single piece of wood and with two holes for a strap to the center.
An interesting war shield that was used by multiple warriors one with the shield pushing forward and the other with bow and arrow to launch protected assaults from the cover of the large shield. With the advent of firearms the shield became ineffective and most were retired or traded after their extended life and use in battle. Size 37 1/4" H x
Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.
Condition: Wear commensurate with age, losses to edges throughout as shown.
