African Dan peoples mask, carved from a single piece of wood, face of the mask is stained while the inside shows the true color of the wood. Incised almost scar like designs on the forehead, cheeks and chin. Dan masks are used for protection and as a channel for communication with the spirit world. Size 9 1/2" H x 5 1/4" W
Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.
Condition: Wear commensurate with age, oils to inside of the mask represent use from over time.
