Africa, Nigeria (Ancient Katsina State) Male Bust of a shorthaired figure with large forehead and lifelike features, the figures eyes appear squinted or relaxed. Nok / Katsina / Sokoto inhabited present day Nigeria, Niger, and portions of Eastern Benin and is believed to be the earliest known civilization of the continent possibly as early as 1500BCE until 200CE. After their first discovery of the terracotta’s circa 1928 they have been characterized with examples of elongated faces, lifelike features, triangular or horizontal eyes, and often depict warriors or important figures. 8 3/4" H on included custom stand, head 6 1/2" H x 4 1/4" L
