Beautiful African rain wand forged from several pounds of iron in captivating serpentine style rods, with diamond shaped tips. Base of each end is fused to the central body with a tapered handle. Mumuye shamans would use rain-making wands such as these because they believed their snake-like forms mimicked flashes of lightening. Shamans would place the wands into the earth petitioning the gods to let the rain fall. Size 23" H (Stand for photography purposes only)
Collection of Mr. M. Clayton, Long Beach, California, USA. Mr. Clayton is a noted African art dealer having previously noted items at the UCLA Fowler Museum from September 2018 – March 2019.
Condition: Oxidation and light encrustations with nice deposits throughout.
