As though watching the artist paint, you follow the painting from one end to the other, we find animals running through the forest, bountiful and full trees. Numerous people working and tending to various things, including men wearing soldier like uniforms telling a slave to get back to work. Other people tend to the houses and meals, while a wheel is being moved by three slaves being whipped. Size in frame 45 1/2w x 28 3/4"h, sight of painting is, 27 1/4"w x 20 1/4"H. Signed and dated center bottom.
French born artist Dominique Lagru’s painting "esclavage" which translates to ‘slavery’ is an earlier work by the artist. Dominique only started painting at the age of 76, he grew up an orphan and became a shepherd at age twelve and later a coal minor. He served in WWI, and later became involved in the labor movement. Dominique painted flat, starting at one end of his canvas and working towards the edges, slowly developing his composition.
Condition: Frame appears to be original however does have several areas of loss as shown. Painting appears to be intact and in preserved museum level glass.
