Pre-Columbian, Gulf of Mexico, Veracruz, Aztec 1300CE – 1521CE Stone Face Mask with open eyes and gritting teeth likely a ball player carved from a grey Basalt or Andesite volcanic stone with icy blue or white pigment to the eyes and mouth with some old stucco or soil to surrounding areas. Large round mask with pronounced facial features including an open mouth with gritting teeth, open almond shaped eyes, and his helmet or hairline. Above both ears and slightly forward is a decorative carving possibly reflecting the helmet or hairline. The mask is drilled above both ears with large conical holes and drilled to the top center with a single large hole possibly used to affix additional decoration. 6 1/2" H x 6" W
