West Africa, Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire, Akan peoples, Chiefs armlet 20th century. Gold leaf, wood, and brightly colored fibers. A wide Muslim influenced talisman carved in wood with gold leaf laid over. Even through the Akan chieftains were mostly Christian they often used Muslim imagery which was believed to grant the wearer invincible in war. Size 5 3/4" W x 6 1/4" H
