Asante Gold Linguist Staff Finial (Akyeame Poma)

West Africa, Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire, Akan peoples. Linguist staff circa 1950s or earlier. In gold leaf over wood depicting a cock or rooster. The staff bearers or Akyeame(linguist) is the orator for the chief and as the Akan peoples say "makes his word sweet". The avian form finial is large with some applied cinnabar or pigment for decoration and definition. Size 12" H x 12" W (Stand for photography purposes only)
