Lot 88:
African bronze sword 10th-16th century probably from the lower Niger bronze industry cast in bronze lost-wax technique. The sword is a wide double edged diamond shaped blade with incised geometric patters to the patinated green surface. The tang has a tapper inward, triangular base to the grip as a crossguard, and with a heavy bronze wire grip to the handle which has an ornate loop design to bronze wire. The top of the handle conical with another looped design to the tang. Note the incised decoration to either side of the raised central ridge of the blade appears to be bands of cross hatch demi-circles in opposition. Size 27 3/4" L, blade 22" L
