Eastern Europe, Russia, Caucasus region circa 1850-1945. Very scarce and well preserved example of an early Russian Shaska used throughout the region of the black sea and Eastern Europe, the handle is a fine wood or horn with inlaid bone and the Cyrillic text appears to be initials "AE". The blade is a fine single edged with a flat back spine and slightly curved to tip in the traditional Shaska fashion, heavily etched with coats of arms star with sword across and scrolling patterns or banners and marked to the ricasso Horster Solingen blade armoury.
