Eastern Europe, Caucasian, Georgia, late 18th century to early 19th century gold garnish kinjal Qama dagger with bone grip in black and white sides decorated in gold garnish inlaid hardware, blade is straight double edged with two incised lines to ricasso and two shallow fuller to the forward section of blade that get progressively more shallow toward pointed tip, reverse of dagger is ebonized and with gold/steel hardware, blade features two shallow fuller for entire length, sheath is heavily decorated in gold garnish patterns of ribbons and scrolling following the Islamic fashion.
Kindjal decorated in the so call garnish application are particularly rare, the process involves inlaying ribbons of gold into a carved base material such as grips or iron. The most lavishly decorated Qama are believed to be made in Tbilisi an important trade epicenter for the sword makers of the period where master Georgian and Dagestani weapon smith converged. It was a point of pride and stature to have a fine Qama worn by men at the waist slightly bent. Size 21 1/2" L, blade 15" L
