Borderlands Frontier battle axe halberd, 17th century with old period replaced shaft with naturally ribbed lower haft, the axe face with an arched edge, wide rear spear like spike with tall central spike with four sides. Likely used during the Oñate period (1590-1601), New Mexican, taken and used by the Pueblo Indians. New Spain and it’s impact throughout the new world known as Spanish Borderlands began in 1519 when Alonso de Pineda first mapped the Texas coast and ended 1821 at the beginning of the Mexican Period / Independence. This period was marked with the inclusion of Spanish material and that which was constructed locally in the Spanish Southwest. Many items such as the battle axe halberd forged in Europe made their way to New Spain and the Spanish Borderlands to then be converted or retrofitted for use locally. Size overall 50" H, axe blade 6 1/8" H
