Japan, Meiji Period 1868 – 1912. The incensor features a large giant toad known as Ogama in a plump position with small pierced hole to the tip of the mouth for incense. The giant toad or frog with a beautifully indented skin surface and hollow underbelly. At his back a base with scrolling band and a well patinated silver wire inlaid bronze vase decorated in intricate avian scenes. The separate top of allover incised with a scene featuring one prominent bird flying through the sky, many smaller birds, clouds, lily pads and a river scene. The sides of the vase with separately cast handles in the form of foliage branches of blossoming cherry tree. 18 1/4" H x 11 1/4" W x 14" L
