Used and well cared for Ashanti Akua Ba fertility doll. This particular piece has a painted face, characteristic eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth skillfully carved in high relief. She stands with a long banded neck wearing a red beaded necklace, arms outstretched. Size 6 1/4" W x 15 1/2" H on included custom stand
Women who had trouble becoming pregnant would have a carver create a figure for them and she would carry it on her back, offer it symbolic food and drink as well as honor it on a shrine in her home.
