West Africa, Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire, Akan peoples, Asante. Court linguist’s staff finial circa mid to early 20th century. Sheets of gold leaf over wood of a seated chief or orator. The figure appears to be sitting on a large oval form bead or gold dust container, wearing a traditional robe, one hand pointed to his cheek with the other at his knee.
