Lovely North Coast circa 1100 – 1450 AD whistling monkey stirrup vessel. Greyware with tan pigment, double bulbous bodied joined in the middle with a cylindrical barrel neck. Incised bridge acts as a tunnel to the monkey whistle portion. The monkey is depicting holding one hand to his mouth and the other to the side of his cheek. Double chambered vessels like this held alcohol and the whistles would make sounds when poured out so the owner knew when a thief had their canteen in hand. Size 7 1/2" L x 7" H
