Oceania, Solomon Islands, San Cristobal, Makira province 20th century Qauata or Qauaata parrying shield/war club used in the 19th century and it is believed that patination indicates their period of popularity. The strong hardwood leaf shaped implement has a deep reddish brown patina with a finely inset bone applique to the face resembling an eye. The leaf with a strong hook and edged to either side it is carved to resemble a diving fish. Size 44" H x 20" W
