African , Somalia or Ethiopia. Dark brown leather shield with linear geometric designs incised into the surface in bands. The shield has a raised central section creating a slight cone, numerous bulbous embossing or knots, and a raised outer lip. Very nice patina. Rare shield of the type that warriors would often never sell or gift similar to the known type of Danakil region warriors. Size 16" W
Lacey Collection. Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.
Condition: leather handle broken into two pieces and repaired
