Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Middle Sepik Latmul Peoples 19th-early 20th C. Miniature Maskette carved in wood or from a seed pod. The mask features a cone head with coffee bean eyes, small circular ears, and a side mouth. The back of the mask is affixed with two labels listing it as "Middle Sepik" and "Ex-Barlin" collection.
Latmul peoples comprise of about two dozen autonomous villages along the Sepik River in PNG, they’re best known for their art and early creationist theories involving crocodile and an ocean covered earth. 2 3/4" H
